Magico S2
High-Performance Audio Component
Compact dimensions, full three-way engineering
The Magico S2 is the smallest three-way loudspeaker in the current S Series, but it is not a scaled-down two-way with an extra driver added for marketing. Its four-driver architecture uses a dedicated 5-inch midrange, two newly developed 7-inch woofers and a 28-millimeter diamond-coated beryllium tweeter. The division of labor lets each driver operate over a narrower, more controlled band while preserving the compact footprint that makes the S2 practical in more rooms.
The enclosure begins as Magico’s largest single-piece aluminum extrusion to date. A full-length vertical brace is integral to that extrusion, increasing stiffness and giving the company precise locations for internal damping. Computer modeling and laser-vibrometer measurements were used to identify panel behavior before production, reducing the cabinet’s contribution to the sound rather than attempting to voice around it afterward. A three-point support system uses constrained-layer damping to manage energy at the floor interface.
Both the midrange and woofers use Gen 8 Nano-Tec cones: an aluminum honeycomb core between graphene-reinforced carbon-fiber skins. The 5-inch midrange carries a 75-millimeter voice coil, while the two 7-inch bass drivers use Magico’s third-generation chassis. The tweeter descends from the M9 platform and extends the system response to 50 kHz.
Magico’s three-way Elliptical Symmetry Crossover applies a 24 dB-per-octave Linkwitz-Riley acoustic target. Mundorf parts include M-Resist Ultra foil resistors and copper-foil paper coils selected to reduce microphonic noise. Command Performance AV can demonstrate the S2 with amplification suited to its 4-ohm load, then optimize placement, listening distance and toe-in so its unusually ambitious compact architecture works with the room rather than against it.
